Despite current events, I'm remainin' a optimist
Red lights occurrin' ain't deterrin' the kid, no stops to this
Been knowin' since I was a youth all of the truth, systematic oppression
Arrows glowin' over the proof, pragmatic confession
Most rather deal in, what-ifs an' soon-to-comes
I look at the now, what gifts could soothe an' calm
Bring a reprieve to grievin', forthcomin' final answer
Whether Black lives really matter, kill the ana
That's - festerin' in the hearts of my people; darkness an' evil
Parted my people, started to weave through, wit' heartless an' illegal
Ways of life, livin' savage, fed up wit' the squalor
Displayin' trife on the average, goin' head up for a dollar
Made us feel our skin is a sin, encaged the melanin
Tryna breed us out the populace, engaged an' let 'em in
Seem doomed to struggle, but if a million strike back
We could - break these chains, an' build our lives back

In Hollywood, we're underrepresented, a somewhat epidemic
90 years dealin' wit' this struggle, unprecedented
Lincoln Perry birthed a stereotype, but outside Stepin
He was an intelligent, hardworkin' man
Nowadays a legend, first Black actor to earn a mil
Struggled gettin' equal pay wit' Whites, plus top-billed
Later on his character, became controversial
Perceived as negative by walks of life so universal
Currently we got - leagues of Blacks on stage an' screen
All wit' - respected reputations makin' major green
After all that, only 35 done won awards
Too many - givin' great performances to be ignored
Now I can admit, not everybody is due an Oscar
Some - do this proper, while others doin' caca
Many - deserve props for not breakin' bad like Walt White
Get that recognition 'fore they're wiped out by the Alt-Right
